A new day
Tuesday, January 20th, 2009Today I arrived at the EDUCAUSE ELI 2009 conference in Orlando, FL. Thanks to technology, I could follow the inauguration festivities from the screen on the back of the Jet Blue passenger’s seat in front of me. Our plane touched down around 11AM. We took the shuttle to the hotel and immediately found a television covering the events…in the hotel lobby cafe. What a moving experience. I felt like I was standing in the massive crowds covering the national mall. There we were, a group of probably 30 educators and IT professionals from around the country watching this televised event. Some with tears in their eyes, others taking pictures of the monitor, some toasting with champagne glasses, and others cheering. As Obama took his oath, we all stood in unison, cheered afterwards, and joined in toasts and hugs. A memorable event!
